Mikel Landa keen on trying to break Giro d'Italia once again in Lavarone: "It will be another good stage to try"

Mikel Landa is on terrific form and causing damage at the Giro d'Italia, and he will be having a third week full of opportunities to take over the overall classification. He launched a harsh attack on stage 16 which saw the GC group blown to bits, and will be looking to replicate that offensive strategy.

"I've tried it with the whole squad, we've set the pace. I have tried, but it was a bit lacking to release Carapaz and Hindley," Landa pointed out after crossing the line in Aprica. Landa, in a climbing-heavy day well suited to him, tried to make the difference in the final climb - however the damage was limited.

With the work of Domen Novak, Santiago Buitrago and later on Wout Poels who dropped back from the breakaway, the peloton was reduced to the candidates for the Giro win by the time Landa hit the front with some kilometers to the summit of Valico di Santa Cristina. The 32-year old made his bid to try and climb up the overall classification. It didn't prove successful, however he's taken 14 seconds from João Almeida and gotten closer to third place in the GC.

With Pello Bilbao sitting seventh in the overall classification, and a strong support team behind them, Bahrain - Victorious still have weapons to use in order to try and take the overall win at the Giro d'Italia. It will by no means be an easy task, but one that Landa is ready to try once again.

"I'm happy with the sensations, there's still Giro left. Tomorrow [today's stage 17] is a similar ending to today. We will feel the effort and it will be another good stage to try," Landa concluded.
