With the work of Domen Novak,
Santiago Buitrago and later on
Wout Poels who dropped back from the breakaway, the peloton was reduced to the candidates for the Giro win by the time Landa hit the front with some kilometers to the summit of Valico di Santa Cristina. The 32-year old made his bid to try and climb up the overall classification. It didn't prove successful, however he's taken 14 seconds from João Almeida and gotten closer to third place in the GC.
With
Pello Bilbao sitting seventh in the overall classification, and a strong support team behind them,
Bahrain - Victorious still have weapons to use in order to try and take the overall win at the Giro d'Italia. It will by no means be an easy task, but one that Landa is ready to try once again.
"I'm happy with the sensations, there's still Giro left. Tomorrow [today's stage 17] is a similar ending to today. We will feel the effort and it will be another good stage to try," Landa concluded.
