The former E3 Saxo Classic (then called E3 Harelbeke) champion Michal Kwiatkowski won't be present in cobbled classics this spring as the Pole chose to rather aim his preparation to hilly classics in Ardennes, doing races such as Strade Bianche and Milan-Sanremo in the meantime.
"Unfortunately I won't be riding cobblestone races this year, but maybe again in the future. It is difficult to combine if you want to ride Strade Bianche, Milan-Sanremo and the cobblestones," he explained to WielerFlits. "I made that decision together with the team."
And so we will see the now 33-year-old Kwiatkowski in the Italian spring races this year and then also in the hill classics. "If you look at our team, it is a logical choice," he thinks. "It's not that I decided that alone. Together with the team management and the coaches, this was the best decision."
"I started the season a little later than normal," he says. "And I felt good in Murcia and Jaén. I had some bad luck there, but these are preparatory races, just like O Gran Camiño. This will be followed by a nice block of racing in Italy up to and including Milan-Sanremo. I'm really looking forward to it."
