Team Jayco AlUla's
Michael Matthews has taken the win at
Eschborn-Frankfurt 2025, prevailing ahead of
Magnus Cort Nielsen from a reduced bunch sprint in a frantic finale in Germany this Thursday afternoon.
The duo of Laurence Pithie and Pierre Thierry went clear in the early breakaway of the day. The peloton didn't seem too concerned though, with the duo gaining over six minutes of a lead at one point. At just over 100km to go though, Thierry decided he'd be better off alone and ditched Pithie to try for a solo break. That ultimately proven a false hop however, as things were all back together at over 90km to go.
As the race then split up again on the climbs, the peloton split into two. Among the notable riders to have missed out on the lead group were the likes of Roger Adria, Julian Alaphilippe and Nils Politt among others, with around one minute separating the lead group of around 50 and the chasers as they neared the final 50km.
The next move then saw Max Schachmann, Andreas Leknessund, and Gregor Muhlberger drift off the front. As the chase behind stalled initially, the trio managed to get a small gap too. Heading into the final 17km though, things were back together once again. Around 30 riders were still in the mix as the race reached the final 10km, with some fast finishers such as Magnus Cort Nielsen, Michael Matthews, Simone Velasco, Neilson Powless, Alex Aranburu and Marc Hirschi in contention.
It was Uno-X Mobility that were attempting to control things at the front of the peloton, pulling back a couple of attempted flyers on the final lap. As the sprints then opened up inside the final kilometre, Nielsen that opened things up but in the end, there was no stopping Michael Matthews.
This is what happens when your training partner is Pog.....😊
