Mathieu van der Poel has ridden to a superb victory at Milano-Sanremo. A surprising triumph after a modest start of the season, but new insight reveals the Dutchman conquered the Italian monument aboard a new model bike from Canyon.
Subtle details on the bike of the Alpecin-Deceuninck rider were revealed in a report from Cyclingnews. However, a prototype that had been used earlier in the year was put to use in Sanremo, that being of a Canyon Aeroad, the brand's top aerodynamic bike. Even though the winning attack was made in the climb to the Poggio, average speeds were of around 35Km/h on average where aerodynamics play a very big role.
It is possible that the bike will continue to be put to use throughout the spring for the Belgian team. Van der Poel seeks triumphs at the Tour des Flandres and Paris-Roubaix, but his success is also possible in races such as the E3 Saxo Classic which will take place tomorrow.
