It was not even 24 hours ago that
Mathieu van der Poel was diagnosed with a wrist fracture. The Dutchman suffered the injury after falling on his return to competition in a Mountain Bike World Cup race, but he is back to training on the rollers already.
The
Alpecin-Deceuninck star wants to win the only rainbow jersey missing from his palmares, but things didn't go well at all. Still, Van der Poel once again proved he's made of different stuff in a video shared on Instagram.
The reigning winner of Milan-San Remo and Paris-Roubaix has shared an image on his official
Instagram account where he can be seen training! It's true that it's 'indoor' and on a stationary bike, but it's still incredible considering everything that has happened to him in the last 48 hours.
Mathieu van der Poel was supposed to travel to La Plagne for an altitude training camp with Alpecin-Deceuninck after the Nové Mesto Mountain Bike World Cup, but has to miss at least the first few days of that camp.
The Dutchman will most likely not have time to make it to the Criterium du Dauphiné, or at least not fully recovered from this aforementioned wrist scaphoid injury. But, as reported in the last hours, it seems that the Tour de France is guaranteed for the star of the Belgian team.
Barring any surprises, Mathieu van der Poel should be at the 2025 edition of the Grande Boucle, where in addition to acting as Jasper Philipsen's main assistant for the sprints (especially with the confirmed presence of Jonathan Milan) he will most likely be looking for his own chances of victory at some point in the race. With several explosive finishes in the first week of the race, it is very possible that he will also aim for a stint in the yellow jersey - alongside a now hilly finale into Paris.
