The magnificent
Maeva Squiban has done it again! For the second day in a row, the French star of
UAE Team ADQ has taken a sensational solo win, backing up her stage 6 success on stage 7 of the 2025
Tour de France Femmes.
A big, 17-rider breakaway snapped the elastic early on. Among them were some notable names too, such as stage 6 winner Maeva Squiban, world champion Lotte Kopecky, and the likes of Chloe Dygert, Justine Ghekiere, Lucinda Brand,
Shirin van Anrooij and best placed on GC at 5:40, Eline Jansen. By the time the break summited the first categorised climb of the day (Cat 2 Côte de Saint-Franc) with around 47km to go, their lead over the peloton was out at 4:21. A
As that time gap extended out to over five minutes, it looked certain that the breakaway would fight for the stage win. On the Col du Granier though, the peloton really started ramping up the pace, cutting into the break's advantage. At the front meanwhile,
yesterday's winner Squiban was again looking incredibly strong, taking the QoM points on offer at the top of the climb solo, with all the rest of the break distanced.
The upping of the pace in the peloton was starting to take effect on the numbers in the GC group. Most notably, Maillot Jaune Kim Le Court was distanced, putting Pauline Ferrand-Prevot in the provisional race lead. By the time the GC contenders reached the top of the climb and began the descent to the finish line, however, Squiban was still around 1:25 ahead.
Battling well, Le Court wasn't totally distanced, limiting her losses to around 30 seconds on the early part of the descent. With 4.4km to go, Le Court's chase paid off as she made it back into the group containing the rest of the GC contenders. There was no catching Squiban though, as she held on to another stunning stage win.
