Five seasons of commitment and dedication came to an end for the Balearic rider Lluis Mas with his farewell to Movistar Team. With 34 years of age and a wealth of experience ranging from major classics to grand tours, the cyclist is now at a crossroads, eager to explore new opportunities, although aware that his time to leave the bike could be near.

In a recent interview with Marca, Lluis Mas shared his thoughts on his career in the professional peloton and his plans for the future. "Luckily, in 15 years (five of them with Movistar) I have achieved everything I wanted in the professional peloton," commented the rider, who has achieved numerous accomplishments in his career.

During his time at Movistar, Mas had the opportunity to compete in cycling's most prestigious races, including the Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta a España. Now, however, he is faced with the search for a new project that will attract him and offer him the calendar he craves. Although he has not made an urgent pronouncement, Mas is awaiting a response from a WorldTour team that could be crucial in deciding his future.

"They have to give me an answer. I haven't given myself a concrete deadline, but, more or less, if I don't get an answer from that team in three weeks... I'll go another way," warned the experienced cyclist. This search is not driven by financial reasons, as Mas emphasized that "money, right now, is not a problem".

The cyclist, represented by Oscar Lanza and Xavi Llobet, is currently in a period of rest and reflection after a last year that he describes as not easy. His focus is clear: to look for a project that fits his needs and desires, including a specific calendar. If he does not find the answer he is looking for in the world of professional cycling, he is contemplating other options, such as returning to his roots in the Arabay Vas Team Illes Balears.

"It's mine, the one from my homeland. We have teams from schools to U23. I could go and take over. It's one of those personal projects that I would like to do if I leave the road, because I'm not going to leave the competition. I want to do MTB races, marathon races.... Things that I was not allowed to do before and now I could," said Mas.

In addition, the rider is also considering a possible career as a sport director, having obtained the director's course and aiming to reach UCI level 3 in the coming months. Although not an immediate departure, this option could be part of his future.
