Lidl-Trek is about to complete its lineup for 2026 as it has confirmed its 28th rider this Wednesday morning.
Matteo Sobrero has several years of experience as a domestique but also quality time trialist and classics rider, and he will now be part of the American team where he can ride in support of many leaders such as Mads Pedersen, Juan Ayuso and Mattias Skjelmose.
“Matteo is a well-rounded rider who brings a lot of value to our structure. He has a great engine and can perform across many terrains — from time trials and stage races to the hilly classics," team manager Luca Guarcilena said in a press release. "Beyond his physical qualities, Matteo also has the right mentality: team-focused, analytical, and ambitious. We believe that in our environment he can continue to grow and reach a very high level. We’re excited to welcome him on board.”
Although Sobrero only has three pro wins this does include one at the Giro d'Italia and one at the national championships where he beat former European time trial champion Edoardo Affini. He's ridden for the now-disbanded NTT team, Astana, Jayco AlUla and since 2024 he's been part of the German team, where he completed the Tour de France in 2024 and the Vuelta a España this summer - where he played a key support role for Jai Hindley and Giulio Pellizzari. In his own right, he also finished on the podium of the Tour de Pologne alongside Brandon McNulty and Antonio Tiberi.

Not just a domestique
He's now signed a three-year deal with Lidl-Trek where he joins compatriots Jonathan Milan, Giulio Ciccone, Simone Consonni, Andrea Bagioli and Jacopo Mosca. “For sure, I’m really looking forward to joining Lidl-Trek because from the outside it really looks like there is a good atmosphere amongst the riders,” the Italian added.
“Everybody is fully committed to the team spirit, and that’s something I’ve been looking for. I’m really excited to be teammates with a lot of strong Italian riders at Lidl-Trek. It’s one of the best teams, and for the next three years I’m looking forward to developing further, aiming for some personal results, and helping our leaders achieve big victories.”
