Kobe Goossens returns to racing for Intermarché-Wanty at the Tour de Romandie after eight months out due to knee injury

After suffering a knee injury in a crash at last year’s Vuelta a España, Kobe Goossens underwent three surgeries during the winter, with the latest one taking place in February after the issue relapsed. However, he is now returning to competition for the first time in eight months at the Tour de Romandie.

Speaking in an interview with his team ahead of the race, Goossens said “my knee injury is finally behind me, after a first operation in September and two more in February. Due to these physical problems, I missed several weeks of training last winter, but prior to this Tour de Romandie I was able to increase the volume and intensity of my rides during a training camp in Calpe”.

On his previous record at the Swiss stage race, Goossens went on to say “during my first participation in the Tour de Romandie in 2021, I won the mountain jersey thanks to several breakaways in bad weather circumstances. I like this race and that is why I am happy to return into competition here, eight months after my crash in the Vuelta”.

Intermarché-Wanty will be led by recent Itzulia Basque Country stage winner Louis Meintjes at the Tour de Romandie, with support from the likes of Rune Herregodts and Dion Smith, as well as Roel van Sintmaartensdijk, Alexy Faure Prost and Tom Paquot.
