We already knew that
Julian Alaphilippe would not remain with
Soudal - Quick-Step in 2025 and now the folks at Gazzetta dello Sport have confirmed that the double world champion will don the colours of
Tudor Pro Cycling Team next season.
At 32 years of age, and after a career spanning a decade in
Patrick Lefevere's 'Wolfpack', the Frenchman leaves behind 2 World Championships, 3 Fleche Wallonne victories, 6 stages of the Tour de France, 4 of the Itzulia, 3 in Tirreno, Milan-San Remo, a Clasica San Sebastian and Strade Bianche for a total of 44 wins, almost all of high quality. This year he raised his arms in the Giro d'Italia and has just finished second in San Sebastian, demonstrating that he has found good sensations again after a couple of very complicated years.
Although Alaphilippe has been one of the team's most successful ever riders, Lefevere has often had no sympathy for the Frenchman's drop in performance over recent years, especially since 2022, using his voice in the papers to publicly criticize him, even going beyond the line of the professional criticism by calling him a drunkard and criticizing Alaphilippe's partner Marion Rousse. Thus, it seemed clear that the paths of Julian and the legendary Quick-Step had to separate. It will be rare to see him in another jersey.
We'll have to see how Tudor continues to strengthen to see if they have a chance to race the Tour de France next year. We assume that they will again receive an invitation to the Giro d'Italia and that the Frenchman will try to shine again in the classics without the pressure of Lefevere's ear. We'll see how he does in Fabian Cancellara's team, which with this signing shows that he wants to take a leap forward and reach the WorldTour soon;
