Having had an enforced break after riding much of the Classics season with a fractured fibula,
Julian Alaphilippe's return to racing has been confirmed for the 2024
Tour de Romandie.
“We go to the Tour de Romandie with a strong team, confident and motivated to do a solid race," previews
Soudal - Quick-Step sports director Dries Devenyns to the team's official website. "Our roster comprises a couple of time trial specialists, so we hope for some good results on those stages. We also have
Ilan van Wilder, who will be our GC leader. He can rely on the likes of Julian Alaphilippe and
Fausto Masnada for the hard stages, and hopefully, be in the mix for a strong overall result.”
Whilst van Wilder starts as the main general classification threat, for Alaphilippe it is a timely return to racing ahead of the former two-time world champion making his Giro d'Italia debut next month. With
Kasper Asgreen,
Mattia Cattaneo,
Josef Cerny and
Pepijn Reinderink completing the team, it's a strong lineup for Soudal - Quick-Step in Switzerland.
