"It was very important that he was there with me" - Simon Yates enjoys Adam's company at final Tour de France mountains

Simon Yates fought for the stage win in the penultimate effort of the 2023 Tour de France. However, the Team Jayco AlUla climber was ultimately unable to pull it off after finishing with Jonas Vingegaard, Tadej Pogacar, Felix Gall and his brother Adam. Nevertheless, he gained one place in the general classification and will finish fourth after overtaking Carlos Rodriguez.

At the finish line he spoke to Alberto Contador, Eurosport commentator, and confessed that he had not been able to overcome his rivals, who were too strong: "I was trying to win the stage, but those guys are too fast, I was able to come back with them at the end and I dedicated myself to try to improve in the general classification".

Contador asked Simon what it had been like for him to ride the final kilometers of the stage with his brother Adam Yates and to catch the 3 leading riders with him. Obviously, they agree perfectly. The Briton said that the brotherly help was very good for him and that they will celebrate what they have achieved in the Tour by drinking wine.

"It was lucky that he was with me fighting to try to catch Jonas [Vingegaard], Tadej [Pogacar] and Felix [Gall] and that we could fight for the win. Also that I was able to gain some time on Carlos, it was very important that he was there with me, let's celebrate with red wine.
