Tom Pidcock has final attempt to win at Tour de France for me: "Mentally it has been a very tough Tour for me"

It has not been an easy Tour de France 2023 for Tom Pidcock. He was looking forward to finishing very high in the general classification after being at a good level in the first part of the race, but then he fell apart and ran out of gas to be able to finish in the top 10 of the general classification.

After the penultimate stage, in which he was part of the breakaway that tried to fight for the race, he confessed that it had not been a comfortable Grande Boucle for him, as the fact of fighting for the overall left him empty. He admitted he was happy to have been able to fight for a stage at the end, to have felt good sensations again and, of course, he described the Tour des INEOS Grenadiers as "very good" with two stage wins and Carlos Rodriguez's fifth place finish.

"I think we had a very good Tour, we didn't have high expectations, I think mentally it was hard for me in the middle of the Tour because of the fight for the overall, but today I was there fighting for the stage and I finished the Tour in a positive way."

Regarding what happened in the last stage, he said that it was chaos when Carlos Rodríguez fell because the radio was not working and he was in the front group. In the end, he himself worked hard for Rodriguez once he ran out of chances to win the stage, after Pidcock's winning ambitions ended on the final ascent. "It was a relaxed start, but on the descent it got crazy. The radio wasn't working very well, then Carlos fell, I hope he's okay, I haven't talked to him, but it was a tough day," he concluded.
