UAE Team Emirates - XRG appear keen to lock down their latest generational talent for the long term, with reports suggesting that
Isaac del Toro is already in talks over a new contract – despite being tied to the Emirati super team until the end of 2029. The news was first reported by cycling journalist Daniel Benson, who revealed that the team and rider are exploring the possibility of an even lengthier agreement.
At just 21 years of age, the Mexican has quickly emerged as one of the brightest prospects in the sport, combining punchy climbing legs with the endurance and race craft of a seasoned professional. Del Toro’s existing deal already ranks among the longest in the World Tour, yet UAE appear intent on ensuring that their golden prospect remains central to their future beyond the decade’s end.
Rising from promise to proven winner
Del Toro burst onto the international scene with victory at the Tour de l’Avenir in 2023, the race often seen as a stepping stone to Grand Tour success. But his performances in 2025 have elevated him well beyond the label of “promising talent”. This season alone, he has amassed fourteen victories, underlining his transformation from prospect to fully fledged winner.
Between 7 and 14 September, Del Toro produced a remarkable run of form, claiming the GP Industria & Artigianato, Giro della Toscana, Coppa Sabatini and Trofeo Matteotti in the space of a single week. He followed that with a seventh place at the World Championships in Kigali, where he played a key role for Mexico, before returning to Europe to win the Giro dell’Emilia against a stacked field.
Del Toro also came agonisingly close to winning the Giro d’Italia, only losing out in the final days – a result that confirmed his status as one of cycling’s elite stage racers in the making.
UAE’s long-term vision
UAE Team Emirates - XRG have made a habit of securing their biggest stars to long-term contracts, with Tadej Pogacar signed through 2030 alongside young teammates Jan Christen, Adria Pericas and Pablo Torres. Adding Del Toro to that group underlines the team’s vision to dominate the coming era of the sport.
Should a new deal be finalised, it would serve as yet another statement of intent from the already world-leading squad that they are determined not just to win now, but to shape the future of world cycling for years to come.
