Several Colombian media have been complaining in recent days about what they consider a different treatment being given to Chris Froome and the doping case of the doctor of the then Team Sky and the case of Nairo Quintana and his positive for tramadol.
After being sanctioned for the 2022 Tour de France, Colombian cyclist Nairo Quintana finds himself unable to return to the elite of European cycling due to a 'veto' imposed by the Movement for Credible Cycling (MPCC). Teams belonging to this organization have been warned about the problems of signing Quintana, based on the UCI sanction that resulted in the loss of points and the rider's sixth place in the Tour.
The situation is striking because of the rigorous assessment of Quintana's case compared to other circumstances. Recently, the Sky team doctor was sanctioned for use of banned substances, highlighting the disparity in the treatment of similar cases. This has raised doubts in Colombia about the equality of criteria, especially with respect to names such as Chris Froome;
In Colombia they complain that the Sky Team case has been handled with secrecy by both the UCI and the MPCC, who have remained silent regarding the investigations. Despite the suspension of doctor Richard Freeman for 4 years, no other names involved in the use of banned substances have been revealed. There has been no investigation to determine who was supplied with testosterone during the Sky team's time, which has generated uncertainty in Colombian media such as Antena 2;
In the coming weeks, there are expected to be developments in the Sky team case, about which little has been said. The hope for those calling for justice is that these revelations can shed light on the situation and provide clarity on the fair treatment of all those involved in doping cases in the world of professional cycling.
