In one of the biggest wins of her career, FDJ -Suez's 24-year-old French climbing talent Evita Muzic came of age to overcome the mighty Demi Vollering on the brutal summit finish of stage 6 at La Vuelta Femenina.
“When I saw on the final climb that I was the only one who could still follow, I really tried to focus. In the end I was just able to get past her," a beaming Muzic reflected in her post-stage interview afterwards. "I am very proud that we succeeded. It's also great that it worked today, because my teammates really worked hard today. It's also great for me, because I've finished fourth many times. I really wanted to win a big race and now I finally did it.”
With the win, Muzic gained some considerable time on all her rivals except Vollering. As such, the Frenchwoman launches into the top-6 of the general classification, 2:42 down on the Red Jersey of the Team SD Worx - Protime leader but just 1:28 of the podium.
“I'm often too nice in the peloton,” Muzic concludes. “I give up my position too easily, so I often start too far back on the climbs. I think I will race with more confidence from now on. What do I still hope to achieve here? I want to move up in the general classification and why not win another stage?”

If she managed that and recovers well, she’ll make it :-)

No way, she will not make up 1'28" even with bonus secs. Team Visma are much to strong to allow that.

...but she is already in a big team. Could be she beat her new future team mate into 2nd today. FDJ are big players in women cycling, you lack a little no how.

so sad.

Markus keeps losing time and Vos is already out the top 10 (not sure they have much strength left). Even if they work well as a team, if Muzic goes with Vollering on stage 8 with two massive climbs like they did, it’s doable. It will all depend on how stage 7 ends and what shape she’s in then.

Agreed.

Hope so, @ATK123. She only needs proper leaders to get her there!

Yeah that's also my concern. Grace Brown do that on the lower slope but not on higher (that's good but not enough for her). Lucky for her, there is Demi Volering who didn't like to sit-up. Following her wheel is enough to be in the podium. If you look at stage 8, ELB won't sustain that for long & Marcus as well. She has the chance, confidence is the key.
