"I have felt good in recent weeks" - Biniam Girmay bounces back from recent crashes to take victory at Circuit Franco Belge

After a tricky and crash-marred opening to the 2024 season, Biniam Girmay has fired back to winning ways in stunning style with a powerful triumph at Circuit Franco Belge.

“I have to thank my team for the good work today. I felt great and am happy with this victory,” the hero of African cycling reflects of just his second win of the year following his earlier triumph this year in Australia at the Surf Coast Classic back in January. “It was good that Lorenzo Rota was with the attackers. We rode well as a team.”

Marc Hirschi was the first to open things up but the UAE Team Emirates man was eventually passed by a very powerful display from Girmay, and Axel Zingle who took second place. The brutality of the Intermarché - Wanty sprinter's victory was a great return to form for the 24-year-old, who most recently was forced to abandon the recent Giro d'Italia following a crash.

“After my crashes in the spring (during Dwars door Vlaanderen, ed.) and in the Giro d'Italia, I am happy with this victory," Girmay concludes with renewed optimism. "I have felt good in recent weeks."
