Caleb Ewan will return home in 2024, not just back to the Australian-based Team Jayco AlUla but also to the Tour Down Under, a race with the 29-year-old has a rich history with.
“I have always enjoyed racing in Adelaide. It is a great way to start off the year, and the support we get from Aussie crowds is incredible," Ewan said after becoming the first rider announced for the 2024 edition of the race. "I feel I have unfinished business in the Santos Tour Down Under and can’t wait to get back there, racing for Team Jayco AlUla this January."
As mentioned, Ewan has had a very successful past at his home race, winning no fewer than nine stages in his previous seven attempts at taking on the race. Of late though, the Aussie has struggled and after a very public fallout with Lotto Dstny, Stuart O’Grady, race director at the Santos Tour Down Under believes Ewan will have a point to prove when he arrives at the start line on January 16th.
“Caleb will be out to prove he is one of the fastest sprinters on the planet. He is a fan favourite at the Santos Tour Down Under, and we can expect he will be out challenging in the Ziptrak Men’s Stage 1 Tanunda to Tanunda, Stage 3 Tea Tree Gully to Campbelltown, and also the Hahn Stage 4 Murray Bridge to Port Elliot,” O’Grady assesses.
