Christophe Laporte was the absolute key helper for his leader, riding so well that he even finished in fifth place himself.

"Today, we had more success than the others, even if Wout punctured in a cobbled sector," Laporte explained to

Laporte, racing in his home country of France, felt a very special and emotional connection to this huge victory. He has spent years helping Van Aert, and seeing the plan finally work perfectly brought him a lot of joy.
"I think Wout was very strong today and he deserves it a thousand times," the French rider continued. "For me, as a Frenchman, it is special to see my leader win Paris-Roubaix here in France. It is magic, it is an accomplishment in a career. I am really proud to be part of this team and to have been able to finally help Wout win this Paris-Roubaix. It makes me really proud and I am really happy."
