Giro d'Italia 2024 stage 5 GC update: No change to top-10 after Benjamin Thomas takes breakaway victory

The quietest day yet for the GC leaders at the 2024 Giro d'Italia, stage 5 didn't even see any of the Maglia Rosa contenders contest for bonus seconds, meaning the top-10 in the general classification remains without change.

Tadej Pogacar still holds a clear advantage with a 46-second lead over his main pursuer, Geraint Thomas. Daniel Martinez remains in the Top 3, just one second down on the INEOS Grenadiers rider, despite being involved in a crash. Cian Uijtdebroeks remains 4th, with Movistar Team's Einer Rubio 5th.

Lorenzo Fortunato continues to occupy sixth place for Astana Qazaqstan Team, and Juan Pedro Lopez 7th place at 1 minute and 11 seconds behind Pogacar. Behind, Jan Hirt is Soudal Quick-Step's best-placed rider, 1:13 off the lead, Alexey Lutsenko gives Astana the highest team presence in the Top 10 with his 9th place, and Esteban Chaves completes the Top 10 classification.
