Jay Vine celebrating his Tour Down Under 2026 leadership on the podium
The 2026 Tour Down Under has finished and the winner was undisputed. Jay Vine has conquered the overall classification of the first World Tour event of the year, repeating his achievement of 2023.
Vine certainly did not have a relaxed final day on the bike, with the riders taking on the Stirling circuit at high speed due to the strong groups that attacked the stage, and also because of a kangaroo that got in his way and caused him to crash mid-stage. However the Australian was luckily safe - unlike his teammate Mikkel Bjerg who was forced to abandon - and reached the finish together with the peloton to seal the overall classification.
Hence, Vine has won the GC with 1:03 minutes over Mauro Schmid who rode to second place, followed by Harry Sweeny who was third. The gap were extremely small between the riders in the Top10 and were mostly created in either the prologue r the small group separation that existed in the stage into Uraidla. The Top10 was completed by Marco Brenner, Andreas Kron, Andrea Raccagni, Anthon Charmig, Filippo Zana, Matteo Sobrero and Ben O'Connor - most of them will have been happy with the result and also the UCI points gathered.
In the final day of the race, previous youth classification leader Michael Leonard lost significant time, whilst Javier Romo also shed some time after his unsuccessful late attack, which led to some changes in the overall classification in the Top10 and around it.

Scandinavian podium

Tobias Lund Andresen confirmed his triumph in the points classification, a comfortable one and today his third place in Stirling saw his lead grow even further; whilst Matthew Brennan and Sam Welsford finished second and third.
Martin Urianstad won the KOM classification, Andrea Raccagni won the youth classification and the best team in the race was Team Jayco AlUla who nevertheless managed to climb onto the podium.
