Stage 7 of Paris-Nice 2024 has left the fight for the overall classification wide open after its finish. Although Brandon McNulty managed to keep the yellow jersey he won on Friday after his attack with Mattias Skjelmose and Matteo Jorgenson at the end of stage 6. The American UAE Team Emirates rider fell apart right at the end of the day on Saturday to give his main pursuers (Jorgenson and Skjelmose themselves, Remco Evenepoel, Primoz Roglic) plenty of chances on the final day of the race.
Although he was the stage winner, Aleksandr Vlasov is far from McNulty's first place, 2'05'' behind in 10th overall. Meanwhile, Jorgenson is the one who smells his compatriot's blood the most, having fallen just four seconds short of the yellow jersey. Third place is now occupied by Skjelmose, 35 seconds behind, ahead of Evenepoel (4th, 36 seconds behind McNulty) and Luke Plapp, who has dropped to fifth place with a 47-second gap to the leader.
The most difficult of the candidates to fight in the last stage for the yellow jersey is Roglic, who has cut time but is still far from that coveted first place for the BORA - hansgrohe rider: 1'21'' behind the leader, but climbing five positions to sixth place.
