In recent years, the final of Amstel Gold Race often turned into a huge tactical battle between top favourites. At least without Tadej Pogacar at the start. But the 2025 edition should be very exciting with one of the race's most iconic climbs moved further into the race, among other planned changes.

The NOS reports that Cauberg will now be the final hill of Amstel Gold Race, possibly placed only two kilometers before the finish line. Up to and including 2012, the Cauberg was the final climb of the Amstel Gold Race, but to force more racing along the way, the finish line was moved further in the coming years.

The race director Leo van Vliet is now reversing that decision for the 2025 edition that will take place on April 20. "The Cauberg has something magical, of course," he says.

"With the type of riders who nowadays start a finale many kilometres from the end and then also the climb of the Cauberg only 2 kilometres from the end, we expect another thrilling finale. A finale that the public in Valkenburg and on the Cauberg will experience up close."

With this change, the final lap of the only Dutch WorldTour classic will be the same as that of the women's edition. In total, the men will tackle the Cauberg three times, while the women will have to climb it four times.
