Jonathan Milan had hinted at his great form currently and on stage 2 of the
Tour of Guangxi he delivered. The
Bahrain - Victorious sprinter was by far the fastest into Qinzhou and has also become the new race leader.
“The sprint went perfectly for me. The team put me in the perfect position at the end where a sprinter wants to be. Everything went perfectly for me in the sprint. I am very happy and want to enjoy this to the fullest," Milan said in a post-race interview. On stage 1 he was beaten by his compatriot Elia Viviani, but the bonifications he got came in very handy today.
Milan has climbed to the podium twice after his stage victory. Whilst yesterday he was followed by Viviani upon launching his sprint, today no-one had his wheel. He won with a comfortable margin over the rest of the field, with Arvid de Kleijn coming the closest to him. He overtook Dries de Bondt in the GC who had gotten bonus seconds throughout both breakaways so far in the race.
“Of course I'm looking forward to a holiday, but a race is a race," he says, asked on his thoughts regarding the end of the season which looms closer. "It's always nice to win, both for myself and for the team. I really wanted to bring something to them this season, so it was very important to ride here.”
