Ellen van Dijk has had a very strong 2022 season, one that has had a late finale as the World time-trial champion travelled to the
Chrono des Nations to properly debut her newly-achieved title, with another win.
“The organization has really put a lot of effort into this race and it is on par with the men's edition," van Dijk said in a recap from
Trek - Segafredo. "I appreciate that a lot. I also like these kind of one-day races that only consist of a time trial, especially because I like time trial so much. I say it more often, but events like this should be held more in my opinion."
Van Dijk was the main favourite to take the win in France this Sunday, and she established her dominance by winning with over a minute to spare in the 27-kilometer route. Valeriya Kononenko and Amber Neben completed the podium, but distant from the World Champion. A season which not only included that World title but also the time-trial national championships, the Baloise Belgium Tour and several other wins throughout the year. Off-road, she set a new Hour Record on the track aswell.
“I get very happy when I look back on last season," she admitted. "Breaking the world hour record was already a dream that became reality this year, but also defending my world title in the time trial I never dared dream, because from experience I know how difficult it is. There was eight years between my first and second world title."
The 35-year is set to prolong her stay at Trek - Segafredo for at least two more seasons, where she is very happy and will aim for more results.
“It's amazing how great the last two years have been, which shows how well everything is going with the team and how good the relationship is with my coach Josu Larratabel. Everything has come together, and I am already looking forward to next year," van Dijk concluded.
