Egan Bernal has had a life-threatening crash just over four months ago, but despite the horrific injuries his recovery does not stop impressing the cycling world, as the Colombian will be taking another step towards the peloton this week.
According to Gazetta dello Sport he will be joined, from the 5th of July onwards, by the likes of Carlos Rodríguez, Pavel Sivakov, Ethan Hayter and Laurens de Plus - all riders that are expected to race the Vuelta a España. It was mentioned in the report that a presence at the Vuelta a Burgos is on the table, albeit still unlikely.
Bernal has shared a message on Twitter saying he was was supposed to travel back to Colombia at the beggining of July to see his mom who currently has cancer, but has decided to stay in Europe with the ultimate goal of returning to his best form. "Sometimes one has to make sacrifices in this life," he said, and this season he has without a doubt been one of the riders who has followed this more literally.
