Caleb Ewan is returning to the peloton today at the Eurométropole Tour after a complicated period of time, and he is looking to bounce back and also get form for the upcoming race, as he's explained in a press release from Lotto Soudal.
“I am really happy to be able to race again after the Tour de France. I feel pretty good after my collarbone surgery from two weeks ago," Ewan said in a press release. He's removed plates that he's had on his collarbone from the 2021 crash, and is looking to get back to racing with a more comfortable position. "Despite the recovery period taking a little longer than I initially hoped for, it was definitely a good decision to plan this surgery after the Tour. My shoulder and arm were bothering me for quite some months and hopefully this issue has been resolved now".
Now back on the bike and hoping for good form, Ewan will be racing the Circuit Franco-Belge, otherwise known as the Eurométropole Tour, where he will be teaming up with the like of rising star Arnaud de Lie and Tour of Leuven winner Victor Campenaerts in search of an important win but also big UCI points.
“Nevertheless, I have to be realistic: due to the surgery and the mandatory week of rest I obviously lost a bit of shape," the Australian admits however. "I still experience some light pain but it doesn’t bother me too much anymore, which is a good sign. So immediately battling for victory will be difficult but it is a nice race to get the legs going again and prepare for the next part of the season".
Ewan will have big goals for the latter part of the season, where he will look to get back to his winning ways after getting no victories at either Giro d'Italia and Tour de France. "The first goal is the Bemer Cyclassics Hamburg on 21 August, followed by the five-day Deutschland Tour. After that, I will most likely race a couple of one-day events to hopefully focus on the World Championships in Australia afterwards," he concluded.
Lotto Soudal for Eurométropole Tour: Caleb Ewan, Arnaud De Lie, Cedric Beullens, Victor Campenaerts, Jasper De Buyst, Sébastien Grignard and Brent van Moer.
