Thibau Nys has made his long-awaited debut at World Tour level yesterday, and on a journey that seemed to be only a matter of time, Nys is beginning to find his feet within the Elite field despite his young age.
"I joined the Trek-Segafredo riders on a quiet bike ride 6 years ago. I looked up to all those riders on their red Trek bikes. It was an unforgettable day. Today I took the plane to Lyon to drive my first race with the same team," Nys said on his Instagram page.
After years climbing up the ranks in the cyclocross field, and eventually on the road aswell, the 19-year old's undeniable talents have seen him already sign his first pro contract on the road with Trek - Segafredo from 2023 onwards. However, he's joined the team as a stagiaire this August, and has made his debut in the American team's colours at the Tour de l'Ain. He finished on the podium of the Antwerp Port Epic earlier this year aswell as winning the Flèche du Sud, after taking the European championships title in 2021.
"It feels unreal. Let's rock this," he concluded. The Belgian finished the opening stage of the French race over three minutes behind stage winner Jake Stewart, however it was an achievement.
