Bjorg Lambrecht trophy set to be presented at the Ronde de l’Isard on Plateau de Beille summit finish

Seven years after Bjorg Lambrecht won on the Plateau de Beille at the 2017 Ronde de l’Isard, the Belgian rider will be remembered on Saturday, as the summit finish is revisited on the penultimate stage of this year’s edition of the race. The winner of the stage will be presented with a trophy that will be named the Trophée Bjorg Lambrecht.

A crash at the 2019 Tour de Pologne tragically took the life of the talented young rider, as he passed away at the age of just 22 years old. He was recognised as one of the best up-and-coming prospects in the WorldTour, having finished second in the U23 road race at the World Championships in 2018.

He had also achieved several other strong results in the U23 ranks, as he finished second overall at the Tour de l’Avenir in 2017 behind Egan Bernal, before stepping up to the professional peloton the following season. Two months before he passed away, Lambrecht won the youth classification at the Critérium du Dauphiné, which was further proof of the talent that he was.
