A lot of management changes are ongoing at the top teams in professional cycling. Visma head of racing Grischa Niermann is joining Lidl-Trek and with that, the German team's manager Luca Guarcilena might be on the way out. But another team is, away from the spotlight, seeing a change of face at the top. That is
Netcompany INEOS, and it involves none other than its CEO
John Allert.
Allert took over the role of team CEO after Fan Millar into the start of the 2023 season and over the course of the past few years there have been meaningful changes to the team. Dave Brailsford has returned to the team after several years away from cycling; whilst this season
Geraint Thomas has become the 'director of racing' and has very much taken up the role of guiding the team through its racing calendar.
Within this time frame the team also adopted a new focus, with less prioritization in the Grand Tours whilst putting more emphasis on the classics; whilst at the same time the team began a pursuit for new sponsors that would replace INEOS as the team's financial source.
That has since been achieved, with Danish IT consultancy Netcompany officially becoming a title sponsor since the Giro d'Italia, on a five-year deal that assures a yearly €20 million euro investment. French petrochemical company TotalEnergies is also heavily hinted to become a title sponsor from 2027 onwards, where it will replace INEOS.
John Allert leaves the team after its future has been assured
According to both
Daniel Friebe and
Daniel Benson, two sources well linked with the British team, Allert has left the team before the start of the Giro d'Italia. This coincides with the moment in which the team has managed to officialize the new sponsorship with Netcompany; however there has been no announcement of his departure.
This follows along with the team's trend in recent years where public announcements and thin and far inbetween. Dave Brailsford, who is currently the team principal, could well be the one to take up the position as the team heads into a key point of the season with the Tour de France.
