Although stage 11 of the
Giro d'Italia 2024 was decided in a final bunch sprint, the abandonment of Cian Uijtdebroeks has caused several changes in the Top 10. Elsewhere,
Geraint Thomas also gained a handful of time via bonus seconds.
In the intermediate sprint of Fossacesia Marina, the INEOS Grenadiers rider, who is third in the fight for the Maglia Rosa behind
Tadej Pogacar and Daniel Martinez, came in second place to get 2 bonus seconds. Luke Rowe, Geraint Thomas' teammate at INEOS, has already warned that the Welshman is not in the Giro d'Italia to settle for a podium position and although it is only 2 seconds that he has gained, it could prove important by the time the race reaches Rome.
As for Uijtdebroeks' painful withdrawal for Visma, all the riders behind the Top 4, completed by
Ben O'Connor, rise one position in the overall:
Antonio Tiberi is 5th,
Romain Bardet is 6th,
Lorenzo Fortunato is 7th,
Filippo Zana is 8th,
Einer Rubio is 9th, and
Thymen Arensman enters the Top 10.
