Tuttobiciweb has reported the tragic death of 19-year-old
Italian cyclist Sara Piffer, who passed away after a collision with a car on
Friday morning.
Piffer was cycling with her brother Christian, an amateur
cyclist, when the two were struck by a car overtaking another vehicle. While
Christian suffered minor injuries, Sara sustained severe injuries in the crash.
Despite the efforts of emergency services to resuscitate her, the medical care
came too late.
Piffer rode for the Italian Team Mendelspeck, and her death
adds to the growing concerns over safety in cycling, with calls for greater
measures to protect riders on the road. In the last two years, Gino Mader and
Muriel Furrer have lost their lives whilst taking part in the sport they love.
This devastating incident is a stark reminder of the dangers
cyclists face and highlights
the urgent need for improved road safety both in
races and during training.
CyclingUpToDate would like to extend it's condolences to family and friends of Sara.
Praying for the family.
I'm so so sorry to read this news report. Her brother and the rest of her family will be devastated.
