- Not sure, attitude is a funny thing, many others who would say the same get ridiculed for it. These days it’s best for sports personalities to say as little as possible in advance.
- Only eight riders had won the Tour de France in their first attempt and all of them went on to become legends of the sport. Tadej Pogacar was the last one. Paul Seixas could be next one !!
- And yet, only a few of these have made it to the TdF GC podium or won a GT. I wouldn’t write him off in advance.
- Need to get over themselves then don’t they? Might be harder than when Pog beat Primoz but the day will come when there is no-one left from that region to take up the mantle.
- Yes, it is pretty common to beat Remco and not a big achievement either.
In 2026, in the mountains, the following riders have beaten Evenepoel:
Jonas Vingegaard
Florian Lipowitz
Isaac del Toro
Felix Gall
Lenny Martinez
Antonio Tiberi
Luke Plapp
Harold Tejada
Derek Gee-West
Jørgen Nordhagen
Tobias Halland Johannessen
Valentin Paret-Peintre
Tadej Pogačar is not on this list as he hasn't raced Evenepoel in the mountains though he would drop him like a sack of potatoes. So would Paul Seixas
- Why limit to 3? With so many prétendants it may turn into a game of alliances, or the anti-alliances, as we saw in the Yates Giro.
- The historic name reflects the original organisers of the race, the newspaper Le Dauphiné Libéré! Just like the Tour de France was first organised by the magazine L’Auto.
The origin of the use of Dauphin goes back well before this area as it was used elsewhere as early as the 11th century. Dauphin was also quite a common first name at the time, the female equivalent Delphine still is today in several countries.
Confusingly, from greek dauphin is dolfin which in Dutch is Dolfijn and German Delphine whilst the original Germanic Dolf or Dolph refers to a wolf.
- It depends who you ask. It won't be "special" for the Slovenians, Croations, Serbs, Montenegrins and Italians. Yes, the Italians also love Pogi.
- Beating Pogi and maybe Vinnie will be a big task...but beating Remco??? Common, you've gotta be joking.
- Let's compare the Giro and Dauphine 2026 start list. Four second class cyclists who were in the top 5 at the Giro, couldn't even think about a podium at the Dauphine. And some people are still saying that the Giro is a big race. Dauphine doesn't even have Remco, Pogi and Vinnie. Everything is clear to everyone, except to the blind. And yes, Seixas will "destroy" everyone at the Dauphine... Del Toro will have to step down, and the landing will be hard when the reality check has to be recognized.
