It was announced today that promising young Belgian cyclocross rider
Toon Vandebosch will be changing teams for the upcoming season, having a new contract signed already in the upcoming month with Alpecin - Fenix.
On a recent interview Mario de Clercq, technical coordinator at
Pauwels Sauzen - Bingoal, announced the young Belgian rider would be departing from the team: "Is Toon Vandebosch's transfer to Alpecin - Fenix a negative? Yes and no."
He added: "Toon is at the end of the contract with our team, that is one element. On a human level, his departure is a minus for the team. But Pauwels Sauzen - Bingoal revolves around Eli Iserbyt, Michael Vanthourenhout and Laurens Sweeck."
Toon Vandebosch is only 22 years old but is one of the most promising talents on the circuit, having completed his first season as an Elite rider this season. Having finished eighth in the World Cup and currently sitting sixth in the Telenet Superprestige, he has put himself out there as one of the most consistent riders, with a lot of potential to develop. He's achieved Top5 races in the Koppenbergcross and in the recent Parkcross Maldegem, and next year will be joining up with the likes of Mathieu van der Poel and Tim Merlier in the cross season, after making his debut with the team on the road.
"Toon would mainly continue to race in a supprotive role with us. Then it might be better that he moves to another team," de Clercq concluded.
