Gutted for @tompidcock. A crash on the final lap sees him slip to third place in #Baal. He showed great grit to get to the finish and remain on the podium.
Tom Pidcock was in the lead and looked like he was going to win the X2O Trofee Baal race, but a crash in the final lap hampered his plans. He ended up coming in third place, with Eli Iserbyt and Michael Vanthourenhout finishing ahead of him.
Surprisingly the Brit was able to joke about his fall. "It was a stupid fall, but at least I hope it was on television," Pidcock said in the post-race interview. He further added, "I didn't feel very good today, but I wanted to do a fast last lap. I went a bit faster everywhere, but this was a dangerous point. It wasn't my best idea.”
He looks back on his fall after a high jump. "I came down the same way as always. Maybe it was the cause of my fall. When you're going fast, sometimes it's better to jump than stay on the ground. But I wasn't being stupid. I thought about doing something like that, but I thought: let's not."
Although Pidcock managed to finish the race, he injured himself during the process. "The cut I have is not the big problem. It's mainly the bruising. We'll see later. At the moment, I am still full of adrenaline," concluded Pidcock.
