Quinten Hermans to focus on road racing after Gullegem and Zonhoven

Quinten Hermans has decided to wrap up his cyclocross season early and will only compete in Superprestige Gullegem and World cup Zonhoven.

In conversation with Het Nieuwsblad, he revealed the reason for this decision. "I am of little added value, so I prefer to pass. From Monday, I will focus fully on my road campaign," said Hermans.

This means that Hermans will not be competing at the World Championships."Only Gullegem and Zonhoven are still on my programme. From Monday I will focus fully on my road campaign. The reason? Because I think other guys are more ready to play a leading role at the championships," explains the Belgian rider.

He further added, "For example, a place in the top five is by no means a certainty. Moreover, the road training with the team also takes place during the BK period. Hence that has been given priority."

This decision was also influenced by Hermans' recent performance. "Afterwards, a one-month winter break followed. Before that, I was still feasting on good form, but lacked technique. Meanwhile, the situation is just the opposite. The technique in the field is there, but now the form lags a bit, I think. I am of little added value, so I prefer to pass."

Road races are his top priority now. "If you had told me that a year ago, I probably wouldn't have believed you. But a lot has happened in the past year. As a result, my road season took longer than initially thought, and there was no room to finish specific cross-training," concluded Hermans.
