Jasper Philipsen has won the first Monument of his career in a Milano-Sanremo this season and has twice finished second to Mathieu van der Poel and Paris-Roubaix. The Alpecin-Deceuninck rider has proven to be a versatile and very talented rider who will aim for the yellow jersey at the 2025 Tour de France.
In an interview with the newspaper AS he highlighted winning the Sanremo. Then later this year he got his second second place in Roubaix behind his teammate: "My best moment this season was winning Milano-Sanremo. I try to be a mix of a classics rider, especially in the first part of the year, and a sprinter," he shared.
As for next year, with the Tour de France finally starting again with a flat stage, the Alpecin sprinter hopes to win and take the Maillot Jaune for the first time in his career: "Wearing the yellow jersey on the first stage."
He was asked about Tadej Pogacar, a former teammate of his, whom he acknowledges has become the best cyclist of the moment: "We were together at UAE [Team Emirates] in 2019 and 2020. Then I left, but it's nice to see how he has developed into the best cyclist in the world."
He has a special bond with Spain and does not rule out returning to a Vuelta a España where he won his first stage in a grand tour in 2020: "Although Spain doesn't have any outstanding sprinters at the moment, it does have a cycling culture, albeit more of a soccer culture. Coming back to La Vuelta? It's a very nice race that I'll probably return to in the future."
