Visma | Lease a Bike stuck behind crashes in chaotic Vuelta Femenina stage 2 finish: "As a result, our whole plan fell apart"

The second stage of La Vuelta Femenina had a chaotic ending. On the wet Spanish roads, crashes dominated the final kilometers. As a result, efforts of Team Visma | Lease a Bike went in vain as both Marianne Vos and Anna Henderson were involved. While Vos crossed the line safely in the bunch, for Henderson this year's Vuelta ended.

"The stage went perfectly for us until three kilometers from the finish," explained team director Rutger Tijssen. "Thanks to our efforts along the way, we created an excellent position for ourselves. Unfortunately, Marianne and Anna were involved in a crash in the finale. As a result, our whole plan fell apart."

"These kinds of crashes are common in the early days of a grand tour. Everyone is still fresh and eager to perform. It's disappointing for now, but we can’t blame ourselves. We’ll fight again in the coming days."
