Team Visma | Lease a Bike's 19-year-old Norwegian prospect
Jonas Hoydahl, Thursday's stage 2 time trial at the 2025
Tour of Holland was a chance to impress whilst riding for the senior team in their home race. Despite looking good for a strong time, things didn't end up so well for the teenage talent.
As he approached the finish of the 14.8 kilometre course in Etten-Leur, Hoydahl was, as mentioned, looking promising to set a competitive time. As he put in a big acceleration though, kicking one last time towards what he thought was the finish line, his competitiveness soon turned comical. Seemingly confused by some road markings, the Norwegian went full gas with a bike throw, then sat up with around a few hundred meters to go, not realising the line he's seen on the road was not in fact the finish line of the stage.
It didn't take long for him to realise the error of his ways, but sadly the damage was already done. In the end, thanks in part to this unfortunate error, Hoydahl had to settle for 31st placed time at the end of the day, 1:05 down on the eventual stage winner Ethan Hayter.
