VIDEO | Richard Carapaz and almost entire EF team crash down technical Colle del Lys descent

Stage 20 of the Giro d'Italia is headlined by the Colle delle Finestre and the ascent to Sestriere, and it's one of the mountain stages with the least descending. Yet, EF Education-EasyPost almost found itself in an absolute disastrous position, as five of it's riders including Richard Carapaz almost crashed in the descent of the Colle del Lys.

The incredible save happened with 78 kilometers to go, with the peloton going down the second-category climb at full speed. A very technical right-hand corner saw the first of the six EF riders leading the peloton remain firm on the bike, but the five that followed - including the second placed rider in the overall classification - had to put a foot down.

Not only that, but if it wasn't for a small open area, they might have hit the barriers and even went down a small ravine. The American team has saved it's race, but equally left the peloton in relative chaos afterwards.
