Mattias Skjelmose was one of the pre-race favourites for
La Fleche Wallonne 2025, following the
Lidl-Trek leader's stunning Amstel Gold Race win last weekend. Sadly for the Dane however, his hopes look to have been ended in the harshest of styles after a painful crash in the rain.
With Mother Nature having an affect in the Ardennes once again, the roads were soaked and seemingly incredibly slippery too. With around 40km to go, Skjelmose was one of a number of riders caught up in a crash at the front of the peloton, with the Dane seemingly one of those worst affected as he visibly looked in pain. Although he managed to get back up and on to his bike with Lidl-Trek teammates surrounding him, there looks to be no chance of a repeat of the Amstel Gold Race this afternoon.
