Ilan van Wilder did what no cyclist should do when crossing the finish line: celebrate victory prematurely. The Soudal-Quick Step Belgian thought he had won the second stage of the Volta ao Algarve and raised an arm in victory, as Magnus Cort Nielsen swept past him just centimeters before the finish.
Obviously, he didn't realize that on the inside Magnus Cort Nielsen from Denmark appeared like a motorcycle to pass him by a few centimeters just over the finish line. If van Wilder had not celebrated his victory too early, we might be talking about a different final result right now. The EF Education-EasyPost rider has become the new race leader with this win.
