Unstoppable Isaac del Toro continues winning - UAE rider wins Mexican time trial national championships

Isaac del Toro made the last-minute decision not to end his 2025 season in Italy and travelled to Mexico to continue racing, taking part in the Mexican national championships where he is the obvious favourite for both events. This Thursday, he has already conquered the time trial event.
The Mexican nationals had not been held for four years and Del Toro won a race in which he had no rivals of his stature. Completing the podium with silver and bronze medals were Edgar Cadena and Eder Frayre.
"To come back to race in my homeland is something very special. This is where it all started," said the man who had 16 victories and a second place in the Giro d'Italia before taking the win in Baja California. The road race will take place on Saturday, October 25, and Tadej Pogacar 's teammate at UAE Team Emirates will once again be the favorite to win and carry the Mexican flag for the entire year 2026 in both time trials and road races.

Unforgettable year for Del Toro
His first big win in 2025 came in Milano-Torino, before shining in the Giro d'Italia, where he won a high mountain stage and finished second overall behind Simon Yates, after wearing the maglia rosa for several days.
After the Giro, he went on a string of remarkable successes: he won the Tour of Austria (with three stage victories), the Clàssica Terres de l'Ebre, the Circuito de Getxo and the Vuelta a Burgos. In the final part of the year, he dominated in Italy, his favorite terrain, winning the GP Industria & Artigianato, the Giro della Toscana, the Coppa Sabatini, the Trofeo Matteoti, the Giro dell'Emilia, Gran Piemonte and the Giro del Veneto. He has had a tremendous year, which he completes with the time trial of the national championships in Mexico. Something strange would have to happen for him not to win his 18th victory of the year on Saturday in the road race.
He will then have to rest for a few weeks before starting to prepare for a 2026 in which he will surely have plenty of opportunities to shine and in which he will also be a full-on leader such as Tadej Pogacar at UAE.

The comments made after the fact by the amateur rider in question in the Vingegaard incident seem to show a complete lack of sensitivity and lack of respect for a professional athlete out on the road training. - Totally agree with Kulset. The guy obviously finds himself way superior lacking any form of self awareness. Not actually hard to follow a pro on a normal downhill for a while, especially in his windshade and at this time of year pros are not often riding fast so its unlikely he’s a great judge of things. Many amateurs have zero idea of riding in groups, let alone pelotons. Also seemed more interested in taking pics (something else you should be asking first) than riding “together”. This kind of uninvited action is only a small step away from stalking. Teams should really get the ok from sponsors for riders to ride incognito in crowded places outside competition when no team staff is around.Mistermaumau27-01-2026
