Team Visma | Lease a Bike has been suffering with injuries and illnesses already throughout the opening month of the season but UAE Team Emirates - XRG is now not too far behind. After a brilliant start to the year, Jan Christen has fractured a collarbone and will be out of action.
"Unfortunately Jan Christen was involved in a crash at Faun-Ardéche Classic in France today and suffered a right clavicle fracture. He will travel home to Switzerland tomorrow for surgical assessment," the team shared.
The Swiss rider was part of the team's very strong lineup at the Faun-Ardèche Classic this Saturday, alongside Isaac Del Toro, Brandon McNulty and Juan Ayuso. The latter two were part of the winning group, but both lost their chance to take the win as the group steered off course in the final roundabout - just as happened in the Volta ao Algarve.
But not all riders reached the finish, as Jan Christen crashed earlier in the day and abandoned the race. He suffered a collarbone fracture and has returned home, with a return date not planned out yet.
Christen started off with a victory at the Trofeo Calvia and later won the summit finish at the Alto da Fóia in the Volta ao Algarve, where he then carried the yellow jersey for several days.
Medical Update: Unfortunately @janchristen04 was involved in a crash at #BDA25 in France today and suffered a right clavicle fracture.
