Tom Pidcock unable to make a difference in the breakaway: "I needed a few bigger hills to have a winning advantage"

After dropping out from the general classification during 3rd week, Tom Pidcock was once again in the spotlight during nineteenth stage. The stage that brought riders to Poligny, Pidcock was in the mix for stage victory as he joined the lately formed breakaway of over 30 riders. In the end, 23-year old Pidcock crossed the line in 10th, 39 seconds behind stage winner Matej Mohoric.

"It was nice to be back in the race. It feels good to be back racing!" Pidcock shares in press release. "The start was full, full gas. I was in the big move, then it came back together. Then literally just as it settled the next move went, I hesitated for just a second and missed it. I came (back) across after the sprint. It just felt good to be racing."

"I needed a few bigger hills to be playing into my advantage today. We worked quite well (as a group). I knew at 4/5 km to go they were pulling out on us. Matej and Asgreen, they know how to win from a break."

Today's efforts see Pidcock move up to thirteen place overall which be a nice result for the youngster who is still exploring his capabilities and limits at the highest level.
