11th win of the season this afternoon for
Isaac del Toro, who remains unstoppable in the modest calendar he's been racing these past few months. The
UAE Team Emirates - XRG rider has scored the team's 82nd victory at the
Giro della Toscana.
The Mexican's love affair with Italy continues. Despite the disappointing finish, his Giro was incredible and he began the year by winning Milano-Torino. Now, in the two end-of-season transalpine classics so far, he has won 2 out of 2. He won the GP Industria & Artigianato and today he won again in Tuscany.
"We wanted to do something like this with the team, it wasn't easy, but we wanted to believe it could be done. Happy with the job the team did today, I'm very happy," the Mexican said in a post-race interivew.
Asked if in the race he prioritized or thought that the preparation for the World Championships in Kigali is there, he made it clear that when he is on the road he only thinks about winning: "The plan was to win the race, obviously without putting at risk what is left of the calendar, but happy to win another race, this is not normal. I'm happy."
An attack on Monte Serra had him drop the whole competition, he has soared to another solo victory in impressive fashion. "Obviously there's always that thing that they can come in, but I believe in what I'm doing until the end".
Tomorrow, Thursday September 11th, another race for Del Toro in Italy. This time the Coppa Sabatini where he should also be amongst the favourites. Asked if he saw himself winning it, he asked for a breather: "I don't know, first the dinner and then we'll see what we can prepare".
With Isaac del Toro's victory, UAE Team Emirates has surpassed the 81 victories it achieved last year and is now up to 82. Let's remember that the record in one year is 85. There is no doubt that they are going to break the record between now and the end of the season, especially considering that Tadej Pogacar will soon race the Canadian classics and will still have several other races afterwards.
