Isaac del Toro is head and shoulders above the competition on the opening days of the Italian autumn classics and he is brutalizing the competition. Today at the
Giro della Toscana, the Mexican has taken his 9th win in the space of two months and
UAE Team Emirates - XRG's 82nd of the season.
The Mexican rider won the GP Indutria & Artigianato this past Sunday and has now taken his second consecutive victory, this time solo. The race was marked by two ascents of the 8-kilometer long Monte Serra, where in the second ascent Del Toro made the difference with 27 kilometers to go.
There were still efforts behind to catch him, with Richard Carapaz chasing him on the climb and flat kilometers that followed, but without success. The two are set to, alongside Remco Evevenepoel, be Tadej Pogacar's biggest competitors at the upcoming World Championships.
Del Toro hung on comfortably to the lead of the race to raise his arms in Pontedera. Carapaz had been caught by a chasing group, and in the final kilometers Michael Storer and Steff Cras escaped the group to ride into second and third places respectively.
