"There was nothing more I could do" - Ben Healy pledges to continue attacking at 2024 Tour de France after another near miss for stage win

Barely a day goes by without Ben Healy showing his face at the front of the 2024 Tour de France. Sadly for the Irishman however, the wait for a first Tour de France stage win goes on after another close call on stage 14.

Last man standing from the day's breakaway, Healy was solo on the slopes of the Pla d'Adet with just under a minute's advantage over the general classification challengers. When the attacks from the group of the Maillot Jaune started however, Healy was caught and passed by UAE Team Emirates duo Adam Yates and Tadej Pogacar as the latter fired to stage victory, extending his advantage at the top of the GC in the process.

"I think the crowd was something special. It was not a disappointment - it’s just bike racing. I gave everything to be in the break and was grateful I could do my best," Healy reflected post-stage having been given the combativity prize as a reward for his efforts. "Adam Yates and Tadej Pogacar caught me from behind, and there’s not much you can do from there."

"With the gap we had over them coming from behind it was always going to be ambitious. I just knew I had to go full gas from the bottom, which is what I did," concludes the EF Education - EasyPost man, who finished the day in 16th and now sits 14th overall in the general classification. "I held in there for a bit, but then there was nothing more I could do. Maybe this isn’t the type of medal we want, but it is something."
