"The longer and harder, the better it is for me" Jonas Vingegaard reflected on what he considered a good performance on stage 14, and said stage 15 suits him much more than today did 🇩🇰 #TDF2024
Jonas Vingegaard may have lost some time to Tadej Pogacar in the fight for the Maillot Jaune on stage 14 of the 2024 Tour de France, but the Danish leader of Team Visma | Lease a Bike is up to 2nd overall and now officially the main challenger of his Slovenian rival in the general classification.
Despite being unable to match Pogacar's initial attack and the UAE Team Emirates leader having a satellite rider up the road to latch on to after attacking in Adam Yates, Vingegaard managed the time loss well, eventually crossing the line 'only' 39 seconds down on his great rival, leaving the reigning, two time Tour de France winner now 1:57 down in the general classification.
"Of course I was very happy to see the finish line," Vingegaard admits afterwards in conversation with ITV Sport. "But, I did a good performance and I think I can be happy with that. He deserves the victory today, so congrats to him and yeah, it was a really impressive ride that he did."
Stage 15 however, offers Vingegaard an immediate chance to gain revenge. "There is a new day tomorrow and hopefully I can make a difference there instead," he previews. "I think in general it is just a bit harder of a day. Today was very short so to say and I think the longer and harder, the better it is for me!"
