During broadcast Tour de France stage 7, Cian Uijtdebroeks spoke on RBTF. The 20-year old Belgian revealed that he's currently at an altitude camp in Vosges, preparing for his grand tour debut at La Vuelta. Uijtdebroeks already proved his climbing talent with handful top 10s in GC of big one-week stage races such as Tour de Romandie, Tour de Suisse and Vuelta a Catalunya.
"The team gives me carte blanche, so I can do a bit of what I want. They don't put any pressure on me, it's nice, I'll be able to have fun. I'll try not to lose time at the start. and if it goes well, why not aim for the general classification. On the other hand, if we see that it's too early for me, the objective will be to get a stage if possible."
Uijtdebroeks. who is expected to become one of the future grand tour GC stars was also asked to compare himself to absolute leaders of this year's Tour de France - Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard.
"The difference between Pogacar and me is that he is very explosive whereas I am not yet. So you could say that I look more like Vingegaard. But on the other hand, Vingegaard is very thin and Pogacar looks a little fatter, like me. I think I have a little too much fat when I see myself in a photo," laughs Cian Uijtdebroeks.
